HPA Start-up Committee has successfully organized the Talk by Khaw Kheng Joo who is our HPA Member.

Topic of the Talk was Razer - Scaling from Start-up to a Global Gaming Industry Ecosystem Leader.

On 11 June 2026 Thursday evening, 20 invited members were ushered in to 1Doc Medical Centre, Heartbeat@Bedok for a insightful talk cum light dinner since 6.45pm.

Khaw (Kheng Joo), speaker; is a veteran of HP with extensive leadership across technology, manufacturing and communications. From managing HPโ€™s Asia Pacific PC manufacturing and Hand-held product development, he was later CEO of MediaRing and board member in many companies across Singapore.

Khaw is the COO of Razer since 2012. He shared his exciting and challenging journey in this role. This veteran IT leader was sharing his experiences, insights and learnings as he collaborated with its founders and investors in scaling Razer from a gaming start-up into a very successful Unicorn and eventually into a global gaming industry ecosystem leader.

One of the best writeup for that evening was contributed by HPA Secretary Michele Huang who attended the session.

Michele shared:

The best kept secret and privilege of being a part of the HP Alumni Singapore: ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜€ ๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜‚๐—บ๐—ป๐—ถ! ๐Ÿคซ

An amazing feeling to be part of 16 founders and entrepreneurs who got to meet up close and personal 2 amazing business leaders ๐Ÿ… in Singapore: Lilian Koh - the Founder & CEO of 1Doc Medical Group and Kheng Joo Khaw - the Chief Operating Officer of Razer. Hosted at the 1Doc Medical Group's HQ, the evening's guest speaker Khaw gave us food for thought ๐Ÿ’ญ about new business dynamics like the rental economy and selling experiences.

One thing that resonated was about ๐—”๐˜‚๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† and about the type of leadership that produces results - how the original silicon valley giant HP, was pioneered and built on leading with trust, empowerment and equality; ๐—ฎ ๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—ณ๐—ฒ ๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฑ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ป, ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐Ÿ’–.

That was what created the ๐™–๐™ข๐™–๐™ฏ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ƒ๐™‹ ๐™˜๐™ช๐™ก๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™š ๐™ฌ๐™๐™š๐™ง๐™š ๐™š๐™–๐™˜๐™ ๐™ฅ๐™š๐™ง๐™จ๐™ค๐™ฃ ๐™›๐™ง๐™š๐™š๐™ก๐™ฎ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™ฌ๐™ž๐™ก๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™ก๐™ฎ ๐™œ๐™–๐™ซ๐™š 200% to make things happen. I recall, even on my last day in HP, I worked till 5pm with the same passion I had for 17 years....

What also struck me was that 14 years ago, Razer's founder Min-Liang Tan made the strategic decision to bring in seasoned industry veteran Khaw, to help scale the company. The ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† to recognise that what it takes to get a start-up off the ground and what it takes to scale it are totally different capabilities.

A timely reminder that leadership is not about having all the answers๐Ÿค”- ๐™ž๐™ฉ ๐™ž๐™จ ๐™–๐™—๐™ค๐™ช๐™ฉ ๐™—๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™œ๐™š๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™ง ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™ง๐™ž๐™œ๐™๐™ฉ ๐™ฅ๐™š๐™ค๐™ฅ๐™ก๐™š ๐™ฉ๐™ค ๐™–๐™˜๐™๐™ž๐™š๐™ซ๐™š ๐™– ๐™—๐™ž๐™œ๐™œ๐™š๐™ง ๐™ซ๐™ž๐™จ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ.
