What is the relationship between weight and health? Courtesy of ABBOTT Laboratories

As the amount of excess weight increases, so does the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, gallstones, certain respiratory disorders, some types of cancer, and many people with excess weight, especially those who are at risk of other diseases.

What is Body Mass Index (BMI)?

Body Mass Index, or BMI for short, is a mathematical measurement that is based on your height and weight, and is highly correlated with body fat. The higher your BMI, the more likely you may be to develop health problems associated with your weight. BMI can be easily calculated using the following formulae: Weight / Height * Height For example, a person weighing 60 kg with a height of 1.55 m: BMI is 60/(1.55*1.55) = 25

Home Truly

Home Truly

I went trekking in area of Khatib Bongsu, off Yishun Area, a few weeks back. I was determined to raech the shoreline hoping to view Seletar Island, an old haunt, during my NS ages ago. Finally made it!

Chanced upon an old man cleaning his motorbike next to this dilapidated structure, an observation hut of sort. This used to be manned by him/worker, keeping an eye on his inland prawn farm (it's all gone!). This elderly Mr Koh, with a gold-capped front tooth, asked how on earth I landed up where I was. This is an inaccessible sea front, a 1-hour walk from the main road.

I told him its home truly, as I used to accompany my trainees for military exercises in that vicinity 30+ years ago. Time stood still, his hut in somewhat a sorry but functional state. There is drinking water, a bed, a wall-clock and a sea-view of Seletar Island. He reminiscent over this area called Bah Soon Pah or Lorong Mayang and before long we parted. In land scarce Singapore, pray this piece of mangled old kampong stays intact for as long as it last.

Dementia

My 14-year-old boy was mucking around with my hand phone some days back and ask me why I had this SMS reporting feature enabled. When enabled, it keeps a log file... recipient, date, time. before I could respond, I was floored when he asked a second time: "Dad, so are you suffering from dementia?"

Any one wants to engage a venomous mouthpiece!
